Poor Henry. He woke up at the crack of dawn yesterday, put on his sunblock and packed his backpack with a waterbottle and sunglasses. His kindergarten class was supposed to go on a field trip to the beach, but it was cancelled due to lack of parent volunteers. His teacher said he was the only one who cried about it and he had the saddest face she'd ever seen. Mitch and I call Henry's sad face the "Sad Clown Oil Painting Face", because it's so sad and soulful, but funny at the same time because you can't believe it's real. And it's not like we don't go to the beach, because we do it all the time, but Henry's disappointment was because Jack and the girls' classes are always going on field trips, and Hen really wanted to go on one too. The girls and I were waiting for his class at the beach when we got the call that they weren't coming. Here, they are playing with dead crabs (I KNOW! Even Grace is touching them...) . Anyway, the teacher said we could try it today, but they were still short one volunteer, and what do you know, Mitch cancelled his trip down to Seattle and is going to go. Henry must have picked up that crying-to-get-what-you-want trick from me.
Jack's soccer team wins their first game. This picture doesn't illustrate very well the beauty of the soccer fields. They are surrounded by rolling hills, farms, beach, and woods. While I watch the game, the girls keep themselves entertained by playing with a cow that is more a pet than livestock. She follows the girls up and down the length of the fence and eats grass from their hands. If they walk away, she moos very loudly after them. She also impresses the children by peeing and pooping.

Isn't that sad clown painting by Emmet Kelly? Scotty has that portrait / poster or Kramer from Seinfeld and it always reminds me of those clown paintings.
