Shiny Shoes.....
Last night was Jack's middle school band concert. Have I mentioned that he's um, playing the trumpet? You know, the one that sounds like you're backing over a burlap bag full of geese with your car. My friend Beth sent her boy Hunter up for a weekend a while back and sent his trumpet along, so I could hear them practice in stereo. It was freaking awesome. Anyway, he put on the outfit I had to buy him at Suckmart, because he forgot to tell me they had to wear specific clothes. He absolutely about shit himself when he saw the shiny, black $4 Walmart shoes. When we got to the auditorium, he refused to get out of the car for a long while, because not only was he wearing shinyfreaking shoes, I had also made him tuck in his shirt. Anway, I reached into my parenting bag of tricks and pulled out my mean voice, and out of the car he trudged. The same thing that sucks about living on an island with only one store is also what's awesome about it: all the boys were wearing shiny $4 shoes! His face lit up like, well, a pair of $4 shoes when he saw that, then, as soon as he was out of my reach, he untucked his shirt and went to join his posse. The kids sounded pretty good, actually, to us parents sitting in front of them on the bleachers, shielding our eyes from the shoes.
Yay for today, it's Halloween, and I'm sooo ready for it to be over. I feel like I've been beaten with a Halloween stick over the head too many times this month. I'll post pics of the kids in their costumes tomorrow, when, hooray, we get to start getting beaten over the head with the Christmas stick!
