In the 7 weeks we've lived here, I've heard the occasional jet noise from the Naval Air Station up in Oak Harbor. They have a remote touch and go landing strip down here in Coupeville, and today I got to experience these Prowlers firsthand. There's no way to describe the noise. I was in the kitchen feeding the youngest kids when I heard the loudest, thundering noise. The kids jumped from their seats. O grabbed her plate of food and ran into a closet. G ran for her baby doll so she could cover it's ears. I made a beeline for the internet so I could research whether or not my kids could get hearing damage. With no hesitation whatsoever, H ran outside, screaming, "THIS IS THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE!" The jets go right over our house, very low, and have been going at it all morning. It's quite spectacular, but I'm glad it doesn't happen too often, and I'm very glad I don't have a newborn. It reminds me of the time I was a new mother and week-old J refused to sleep. Finally, he drifted off only to have the Blue Angels go screaming over our Magnolia house and wake him up repeatedly. I went a little crazy and called the Seattle City Council, the Mayor's office, and the Port of Seattle to complain. I'm sure all the people that took my call that day got a good laugh about the crazy postpartum lady on the phone. I lifted this photo from the Navy's website because they were too fast for my crummy camera.`
